About Us

“Because Someone Lived” is our motto behind the quality and care we have for making memorials that honor loved ones who have passed on. Life is beautiful, and we believe that although an individual may be physically gone, it is important that something remains to beautifully commemorate the wonderful moments an individual had during their time on earth.

California Monumental Company was created in 1930 by George Demicheli. Our family became involved in 1956 when Andrew Brunetti, who was already well versed in the art of memorials, befriended George and began working side by side with him. Upon George's retirement in 1969, Andrew became the owner of the company and grew California Monumental with the help of his wife, whom he adored, Eleanor Brunetti.

As Time Passed...

Andrew and Eleanor's son, Michael began to work with them, creating beautiful and meaningful memorials by hand. Throughout many cemeteries in the Bay Area, you can still find Andrew and Michael's handcrafted work. With some help from their daughter, Geralyn, the business truly became family owned and operated. In 1986, Andrew passed the company down to Michael who still owns the company to this day. Andrew continued to create handcrafted memorials until the age of 87, pictured below. Michael is now being assisted by his daughter Trisha, who shares Michael's passion and talent for art.

Unfortunately, Andrew, fondly known as "Papa", passed away in February 2017 at the age of 97, though he wished to live forever. Andrew's zest for life and passion for the memorial business and the families we work with has inspired this hard working family to keep his memory alive through this business. We strive to keep Andrew's vision of honoring "a life once lived" alive by treating our families with true kindness and creating beautiful memorials for their loved ones.  Moreover we take pride in our philosophy of putting people first and comforting them during an often painful process. In fact many of our clients have grown to be family friends, often returning to visit us in the office many years after their job was completed.
